I am not paid by Apple nor am I an Apple employee. I'm impressed with the level to which Apple (paid?) product defenders Here is one such example which is not so secret, but still not publicly acknowledged by Apple: It seems Apple is trying their best to do good by their customers.
Apple does have some secret free repair programs as well.
Notice I mentioned "publicly acknowledged". Sometimes Apple will make exceptions.įYI, here is the current list of the publicly acknowledged free repair programs for various Apple products. If you have issues with how Apple has dealt with your laptop, then contact Apple Support directly to lodge a complaint. I understand to you the issue appears the same as the Battery Recall, but it is completely different. None of the other Apple repair programs are referred to as "Recalls". The Battery Recall is different from the other Apple free repair programs because it is a safety issue. All of the Apple free repair programs have expiration dates of three or four years. Apple did provide a free battery replacement program for your laptop for the swollen battery issue, but if your laptop is more than three years old, then your laptop no longer qualifies for the free repair program. Both batteries are defective, but in different ways.
You do not realize these batteries have very different problems. I suppose this is better than standing behind *none* of their products, but this sort of inconsistency is not what you build a strong brand on. The problem here is that Apple stood behind *some* products with this issue, but not all. The person you are dealing with has incorrect information. The batteries affected by the recall do require special fire safety packaging for shipping those dangerous batteries. Even the dangerous fire safety batteries which are part of the Battery Recall can be shipped by carriers, however, the recall fire safety issue batteries can only be shipped by Ground. Swollen batteries which are not leaking can be shipped, but the carriers require the proper labeling on the packages. I've taken the special training required for shipping LiON batteries. This is an understandable opinion, but the representative at the Apple store said that most shipping carriers won't ship a laptop with a swollen battery due to the fire risk, and the rep immediately powered down the laptop after seeing the condition.
